I've used these in probably all of my antweights at one point or another. They're a nice simple package that works well for beginners.

Good speed but bad plastic gears

These motors were pretty lightweight and they ran at a good speed, but after a week or two, the plastic gears inside stripped, so these motors weren't functional anymore. It would probably be better or last longer for lighter robots. My robot was about 4.5 lbs, and it ran using 2 of these motors. It ran at a good speed, but the gears inside could've been of better quality.

Don't use on larger bots

This has been a great motor for smaller robots for many years, but it can be delicate if misused. It is NOT intended for larger bots or large diameter wheels. Best use is in an antweight (1 pound) robot with 2 inch or smaller wheels. When I hear people saying they stripped the gears in their 4.5 pound robot, I'm never that surprised- its just not enough of a motor for that large of a bot. For robots over 1 pound, you should be checking out the Beetle Series gearmotors instead.

My antweight motors

I use this motor on all my 1 pound robots. Usually in a set of 2 (one per side) on 1-1/2 inch Lite Flite wheels, using 3mm hubs, a great setup in my opinion. If you could fit 4 of these into your bot (one for each wheel), you'd be in even better shape, as the motors will be able to share the load when you get into high torque pushing situations.

These motors have served me well in various antweight robots but the plastic gears have often failed in battle. While these motors do offer good speed and torque with very low weight, the possibility of stripped gears makes these motors difficult to rely on. When it comes to combat robotics, I would highly suggest staying away from plastic gearboxes.
